SAP and Apple announced 'a partnership to revolutionize the mobile work experience for enterprise customers of all sizes, combining powerful native apps for iPhone® and iPad® with the cutting-edge capabilities of the SAP HANA platform' ... or, they are releasing an SDK to make it easier to build iOS native apps that work with HANA. Those who have followed SAP's mobile efforts through the years understand that this is the latest in a string of such efforts, and one might be (justifiably) a bit skeptical. Two experts have weighed in - an SAP Mentor and an SAP Mentor alumnus - with their real-world views on it. Very good reading. My take on it - it's a good move for SAP and Apple customers, but a lot of details need to be worked out, and it's not as big of a deal as it's being made to be. Oh - if you don't know about us SAP Mentors, check this out for details.
And speaking of SAP HANA, I get the feeling we've been here before.... with education and certification, that is. Education is a starting point, and SAP has a lot of options for that. But it is not mastery, and it doesn't necessarily qualify someone as a consultant on the topic. Den Howlett at diginomica has a good article on SAP HANA and the gaps in training and certification. We've been here before with SAP certification. SuccessFactors certainly does a better job at this, not perfect but much better. Maybe they can learn from each other?

We don't have a new podcast ready just yet - but look for one coming in the next few days that I expect to cover ASUG/SapphireNow and other topics.
You've heard the phrase that if you do what you've always done, you'll get what you always got? The same applies to consulting and IT-related work, as explained in my latest blog. Sometimes good, sometimes bad – and always something to be aware of.
